Underpainted horn pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

A London verge in an underpainted horn pair case, decorated with a classical scene.

MOVEMENT : Gilded verge movement, signed and numbered (6721) with pierced and engraved balance cock. Four round pillars and silver regulator disk. Clean, in good condition. The movement is running, though a little fast (gaining 5 minutes per hour).

DIAL : White enamel, in very good condition, with no hairlines or repairs, but some surface scratches. Later brass hands.

INNER CASE : Gilt/brass in very good condition, with no damage or repairs, and only some wear to the gilding on the band, stem and bow. Stamped with maker’s mark(IB?). The hinge is fine and the case snaps shut. The high dome, bull’s eye crystal is in good condition.

OUTER CASE : Gilt/brass with under painted horn covering.

The case is in good overall condition, although the catch and catch button are absent, so the case doesn’t snap shut. The horn covering is complete with just one short crack on the bottom edge of the back, a surface chip to the back at about 7, and some wear to the surface at the centre of the back. Most of the pins are missing, but the horn is attached firmly.
