A very attractive late 18th century London verge in fine gold and shagreen triple exhibition case.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance bridge, and silver regulator disk. Signed ‘J. Miller, London’ and numbered (4227). Four square pillars.

All in good original condition and running well. There is some wear to the tops of the pillars but in overall very good condition.

DIAL : Nice white enamel in almost perfect condition. There is just one short light hairline running from the edge at 7. Nice original 18th century steel beetle and poker hands,

INNER CASE : 22ct. gold, with London hallmarks for 1781, maker JC. There is a little wear to the bow, and one sleeve of the hinge has an old repair, but generally fine. The bezel snaps shut nicely and the high dome bull’s eye crystal is fine.

MIDDLE CASE : A fine 22ct. gold case, with wonderful pierced repousse work. Very little wear to the repousse work, though a couple of small repairs visible from the back.. The hinge, catch and catch button are all fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely.

OUTER CASE : An excellent gilt and shagreen case, with glass exhibition back. The shagreen is in good condition with just 2 cracks on the front, one on the back and no pieces missing. It retains its green colour. The hinge, catch and catch button are all fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely.

The gold cases weigh 40 gms (excluding movement, crystal and outer case).
