Silver repousse pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Signed and numbered (11424) gilt brass verge movement, with four square pillars, engraved balance bridge and plate, and silver regulator disc. A few scratches to the plates, especially around the pillar tops, but complete and running.

DIAL : White enamel, in reasonable condition, with no repairs or hairlines. Some light scratches and a thin chip on the edge at 10.

INNER CASE : Silver, hallmarked for London, 1784, maker’s mark BN. The case shows a little compression around the band. The stem is very worn and has been reattached. Replacement bow. The hinge and bezel are worn but the bezel snaps shut nicely. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is fine.

OUTER CASE : Silver repousse. Poor condition with significant wear to the high points of the repousse work, resulting in several holes, but no repairs. The catch button and rim of the bezel are also worn, but the hinge is ok and the case snaps shut.

The dial and movement of this watch suggest that it was probably made on the Continent. Watches of this date and type are often marked ‘London’ but were probably made in Holland or Switzerland.
