Paris, c1780
Gold case
Verge movement

Sold

A small, late 18th century, Paris verge in a fine gold case.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance bridge, silver regulator disk and four round pillars. Signed ‘Le Roy, A Paris’ and numbered (10896) All in good condition and running, though a little fast (gaining about 4 minutes per hour).

DIAL : Original white enamel dial, with hours marked in red. In reasonable condition but with repairs around the winding aperture and on the edge at 2. Also a few light hairlines around the edge. Matching silver pierced hands with tiny crystals (a few missing).

CASE : A wonderful solid gold case in very good condition. Rose and yellow gold with crystal bezels to front and back, and enamel and pearl decoration on the back. The bezel is sprung so springs open when the stem is depressed. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. Good high dome crystal with just a few very light scratches. There is a little discolouration to some of the crystals in the bezels (though none missing), and some tiny enamel pieces missing from the gold decoration of the back, but generally in very nice condition.
