Silver pair cases
Rack lever movement

Sold

A fine quality Litherland rack lever, in heavy silver pair cases.

MOVEMENT : Gilded rack lever movement, with nicely engraved balance cock marked LITHERLAND & CO., PATENTEES. Blued steel screws and diamond endstone. Signed (D. Northgraves, Hull) and numbered (6040). Protected by a removable gilt dustcap. All in excellent original condition, and running well.

DIAL : Fine white enamel, in excellent condition, with just a few very light small surface scratches. No repairs. Gold hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, hallmarked for Chester, 1831, maker’s mark IE. Heavy case, in very good condition throughout, with just some tarnishing on the pendant and bow. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is fine. The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes properly.

OUTER CASE : Silver, with matching hallmarks to the inner. The silver is again in very good condition. The hinge is fine but the end of the steel catch is missing so the case doesn’t snap shut.

Denton Northgraves is listed in Hull from about 1790 until 1835.
