English, silver pair cased verge with unusual polychrome dial.

MOVEMENT : Gilded verge fusee movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock. Signed and numbered (50). All in good original condition. Running well.

DIAL : White enamel, with very unusual polychrome scene of carpenters. In excellent condition, with just some surface scratches, but no repairs. Good blued steel 18th century beetle and poker hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, hallmarked for London, 1781. Maker’s mark TG and case number 5609. Excellent condition throughout. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is fine. The hinge and catch are also fine and the case closes properly.

OUTER CASE : Silver, unmarked. Again in excellent condition except that the catch button has worn down. The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes correctly.

Thomas Austen is listed at Challock, Kent. He was born in 1733, married in 1785 and died in 1805.

The outer case includes a watchpaper, dated 1884, from Tunbridge Well, Kent.
