Silver & horn pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

A unusually large London pair cased verge in an interesting horn outer case, underpainted with a naval scene.

MOVEMENT : Gilded verge fusee movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock. Signed and numbered (14761). All in good original condition, with a few scratches around the pillars. Running well.

DIAL : White enamel, in good condition, with just some hairlines from the edge at 3. No repairs. Very fine matching gold hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, hallmarked for London, 1795, and with movement serial number. Maker’s mark IG. Very good condition throughout with just a few scratches at the winding aperture. The high dome crystal is fine. The hinge and catch are also fine and the case closes properly.

OUTER CASE : Silver rims and pins, with underpainted horn covering. Good overall condition and no repairs. Just ten pins missing from the bezel and twenty five from the back. A few short cracks, and small chips at the catch, but no horn missing. Excellent colour. The hinge is fine, and the catch is complete (button worn down) but the case doesn’t snap shut.
