Verge movement

Sold

A silver pair cased verge, with a very unusual and beautiful silver balance cock and plate.

MOVEMENT : Fine quality verge movement, with solid silver engraved and pierced balance cock and plate. Signed and numbered (168). The movement is protected by a signed and numbered removable gilt dustcap. A little corrosion to the silver regulator disk, but otherwise in very good original condition and running well.

INNER CASE : Silver, no hallmarks, but maker’s mark WR. In excellent condition. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. Good high dome crystal with no damage.

OUTER CASE : Silver pair case, with maker’s mark matching the inner. There is a worn engraving on the back, an old repair on the inside of the bezel at the hinge and the catch button has worn down. The hinge is fine and the case snaps shut nicely.

William Warren is listed in London (Shoreditch) between 1743 and 1752.
