Gisgard
Downham Market, Norfolk, 1872
Silver pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock. Signed and numbered (58680). Very good condition and running well.

DIAL : Wonderful enamel and gilt “Keep me clean” dial. This is in fine condition, which is very rare as these dials usually have at least one crack across the enamel chapter ring. Just a few very light surface scratches. The gilt rim is engraved with :

KEEP ME CLEAN AND USE ME WELL
AND I TO YOU THE TRUTH WILL TELL.

INNER CASE : Silver, hallmarked for London, 1872, maker’s mark PW and movement serial number (58680). The case snaps shut nicely and the silver is in very good condition with just some light scratches around the sides. The high dome bull’s eye crystal has a few scratches and two small chips on the bezel at 4 and 8.

OUTER CASE : 57.5 mm, silver, matching hallmarks to the inner. The hinge and catch are fine and the case shuts correctly. The silver has just one very small dent on the back and some bumps to the edge of the bezel, but in generally very good condition.

James Gisgard is listed in Downham Market between 1839 and 1879.
