MOVEMENT : Excellent gilt quarter repeating verge movement. Signed JOHN GORDON, LONDON. Finely engraved and pierced balance cock and plate, with blue screws Four round pillars. The movement is protected by a silver dustcap, signed as the movement.
Running well and repeating reasonably reliably (occasionally skipping an hour and the quarter is a bit dull). All complete including the small vibrating pulse piece.

DIAL : 38.5 mm. Fine white enamel in perfect condition except for a small repair on the edge at 6. This dial is a little later than the movement, probably added in the second half of the 18th century. Fine 18th century gold beetle and poker hands.

INNER CASE : 42.75 mm. 22 ct. gold hallmarked under the bell for London, 1720. Beautifully pierced and engraved. In excellent condition throughout. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is fine .

OUTER CASE : 50 mm. 22 ct. gold with no marks. Wonderful condition throughout with hardly any wear to the gold repousse work. The catch and hinge are good and the case snaps shut nicely.

These are heavy cases, weighing a total of 80 gms. Excluding movement and bell, but including the crystal.

John Gordon is listed in London from 1689 and died in 1732.
