Silver case, 54.5 mm.
Verge movement
Compass dial

Sold

MOVEMENT : Gilt brass verge movement, with four pillars, engraved balance bridge and silver regulator disc. Complete and original condition, running well.

DIAL : 50.5 mm. Large white enamel dial, with inset glazed compass. Small repairs at the winding aperture, on the right hand edge of the compass, and on the edge at 12, 4 and 7. Two light hairlines on the edge at 12. The hands are set using the square arbor in the centre of the dial.

CASE : 54.5 mm. Silver. In good condition. The hinge and high dome crystal are fine and the bezel snaps shut. The rear glazed back is hinged but the front bezel is snapped on without a hinge. This is an odd arrangement, as it would usually be the hinged cover giving access to the winding square. So this might be a replacement case (the movement is held tightly when the case is closed but slightly loose when open).

This watch was probably made in Switzerland around 1800 during which period small compasses were occasionally set into the dial, as in this example.
