Lepine
Paris, c1800
Gold case
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance bridge. Signed “L’Epine, A Paris” and numbered (11249). All in good original condition with the gilding still bright. Running well.

DIAL : Signed white enamel dial in perfect condition except for one tiny flake at the centre aperture. Good quality ‘Breguet’ hands.

CASE : Inner cuvette in gilt brass (signed and numbered as movement) but the rest of the case in high carat solid rose gold. There are French gold marks on the inside cover, bow and the stem (800 standard which is a little better than 18 carat). The bezel, band and back are all engine turned.

The condition of the case is generally good though there is a repair to the back cover hinge (see photo). However both bezel and back cover do snap shut. Very little wear to the engine turning.

Jean Antoine Lepine worked in Paris (from Geneva) from 1744 until 1810. During some of this time he was the horologer to Louis XV.
