Silver pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Signed (J. P. KROESE, AMSTERDAM) gilt brass verge movement, with four square pillars, engraved balance cock and plate, and silver regulator disc.
The balance cock has the following Latin inscription around the side :

“Omnia metitur tempus sed meteor impum”
and a nice engraving of Father Time with his scythe.

The balance does swing and the movement is complete but is not running.

DIAL : 38 mm. White enamel signed dial, in very nice condition, with just a few scratches, and small chips around the edge at 2, 6 and 7. Later hands.

INNER CASE : 42.25 mm. Silver, hallmarked for London, 1786. Reasonable condition throughout, with a few light bruises and wear to the pendant. The hinge is a little worn but the bezel closes nicely. The high dome, bull’s eye crystal is fine.

OUTER CASE : 50.25 mm. Wonderful silver repousse case. Very nice condition with just two small pin holes caused by wear to the high points of the repousse work. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut nicely.

J. P. Kroese is listed in Amsterdam from 1702 until 1778. This movement dates from about 1750.
