Charles John Andrew
Maldon, Essex, 1866
Silver pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock. Signed and numbered (52413). Generally good condition and running well, but the balance cock table has been runned and lost some of the engraved detail. However the balance cock is original as it is stamped with the movement number 413.

DIAL : 46 mm. Wonderful enamel and gilt “Keep me clean” dial. This is in perfect condition, which is very rare as these dials usually have at least one crack across the enamel chapter ring. The gilt rim is engraved with :

KEEP ME CLEAN AND USE ME WELL
AND I TO YOU THE TRUTH WILL TELL.

INNER CASE : 50 mm, silver, hallmarked for London, 1866, maker’s mark PW and movement serial number (52413). The case snaps shut nicely and the silver is in very good condition with just some wear to the pendant. The high dome crystal is fine.

OUTER CASE : 58.5 mm, silver, matching hallmarks to the inner. The hinge and catch are fine and the case shuts correctly. The silver has a few light bruises on the back but in generally good condition. The outer case has an old watchpaper from Maldon.

Charles John Andrew is listed in Maldon, Essex between 1866 and 1874
