Gild & enamel case
Verge movement

Sold

A beautiful late 18th century continental verge in a wonderful enamel and gold diamond set case. The nicest enamel that we have had.

MOVEMENT : Signed Ageron, Paris. Gilded verge movement in good original condition, and running well.

DIAL : 34.5 mm. White enamel. Some damage around the edges and winding aperture, and an old repair on the edge at 2. Unusual silver gem set hands. The tip of the minute hand is missing and some of the tiny stones are also missing.

CASE : 42.25 mm. Gold with with diamond set pendant and catch, with enamel decoration to the back. The inside is stamped with a case number (1056) and crossed keys. The gold is in very good condition and the case closes nicely. The high dome crystal is good with just one light scratch on the edge. Both catch button and pendant are set with rose cut diamonds. The diamond on the pendant is very large, over 5mm across.

The enamel painted scene on the back is wonderful. No chips or restoration and just a few surface scratches.

A maker named Ageron is listed in Paris between 1770 and 1790.
