A very stylish gold verge, with fine quality movement and beautifully pierced gold hands.
MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement in good, clean condition and working well. Signed “G. H. Valentin A Geneve” and numbered (1901). A good quality movement with interesting polished steel balance staff of a very unusual type (see photo).
DIAL : 467.5 mm. Large signed white enamel dial in reasonable condition, though with light hairlines radiating from the centre towards the lower edge. Small chip at the centre, mostly obscured by the hour hand. No repairs. Beautifully pierced matching gold hands.
CASE : 53 mm. Gold. Maker’s mark SG. No gold marks but tested as high carat gold. The hinges and catch are all good. There are three light dents on the back and some scratches on the band at the opening catch. The band is also nicely engraved with an owner’s initial ‘AVP’.
The crystal is fine with no chips or bad scratches.
Henry Guillaume Valentin is listed in Geneva up until 1770.
