Sold

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock. Signed “Jam.s Blackbarow, LONDON” and numbered (1457). Good condition and running well.

DIAL : 36 mm. White enamel dial, in reasonable condition but with several light hairlines running across the dial and a tiny chip on the edge at 8. Good 18th century gold beetle and poker hands.

INNER CASE : 40.5 mm, 22ct gold, rubbed hallmarks which I believe are for London, 1739. Maker’s mark JY. The hinge is fine and the case snaps shut. Good condition throughout. Good high dome crystal with no damage.

OUTER CASE : 47.5 mm, 22ct gold. Beautifully engraved heavy case with no hallmarks but the maker ITP. The hinge, catch and button are fine and the case snaps shut nicely. Very little wear with no holes or repairs. This may be a slightly later case to the inner, but it is high carat gold and a perfect fit for the inner.

The total weight of the gold cases (with crystal) is 51.5 gms.

James Blackbarow is listed in London from 1701. He died in 1746.
