Large English silver pair cased verge, in fine original condition.

MOVEMENT : Signed and numbered (944) gilt brass verge movement, with four square pillars, beautifully engraved balance cock and plate, and large regulator disc. In good, original condition. Complete and running well.

DIAL : 45.3 mm. including dial plate. Silver champleve dial, in fine condition, and original early 18th century black steel hands.

INNER CASE : 51.1 mm. Maker’s mark IW (rubbed). Excellent condition throughout with just one small bruise near the winding hole. The high dome crystal is fine.

OUTER CASE : 59 mm. Maker’s mark IW. Again in good overall condition with just a few small light dents. The hinge and catch are fine.

Joseph Foster is listed at Exchange Alley, London, from 1684. He was in the Clockmakers’s Company from 1692 until 1704 and this watch is from the end of that period.
