James Oswald
Salop, 1780
Silver pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : The gilded verge fusee movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, is signed and numbered (1398). It is running well.

DIAL : The white enamel painted dial is about 36.5 mm in diameter. It is in very fine condition with just a few very light surface scratches and slight rubbing right at the top. The painting has been very well done and I believe is original. Fancy gilt hands.

INNER CASE : Diameter 42.5 mm. Silver hallmarks for London, 1780, maker IL. Good overall condition. Nice high dome bull’s eye crystal good condition. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut nicely. The bezel has two small silver tabs attached at 13 and 8 (one missing at 4), though I’m not sure what these were for.

OUTER CASE : Diameter 51.5 mm. Not a match to the inner, though a good fit. Silver hallmarks For London 1759, maker WB. The hinge and catch are again fine and the case snaps shut. There are a few light bruises but in overall very good condition.
