Johan Stantzl
Brunn, Austria, c1770
Gilt & enamel case
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, fully signed (Johan Stantzl a Brunn) and numbered (526). Good original condition and running well.

DIAL : 34.75 mm. White enamel, with ornate gilt hands. No repairs but with chips around the winding aperture, hairline on the edge at 3, and some scratches and small chips on the edge at 6. However a nice early and original dial.

CASE : 43 mm. Gilt with cut/polished steel encrusted bezel and border to enamel portrait. The gilding is still bright on the inside, which is marked “LETON” (case maker ?).
The gilding has worn in places, especially the pendant and bow, though these seem to be original. The catch spring and button are absent. The movement catch and both hinges are fine.
There are about 8 steel pieces missing from the bezel but none from the portrait border. The enamel portrait has survived well. There is a little rubbing to the surface but the colours are still bright, there are no chips or cracks, and there appears to be no restoration.
