This is a very early silver pair cased pocket watch, with a wonderful verge movement, by Daniel Delander around 1720.

MOVEMENT : The gilded verge fusee movement is signed and numbered (585). It has magnificent tulip pillars and a huge diamond endstone which is drilled for the balance pivot, rather than for ornamentation. The pivot and balance can be clearly seen oscillating through the diamond. The movement is in wonderful condition and is running well.

DIAL : The white enamel dial is 39mm in diameter and in perfect condition except for one light hairline from the centre towards 11 o’clock. This dial (with the hands) is a 19th century replacement.

INNER CASE : Diameter 47.25mm. Maker’s mark EB ? but no hallmarks. The pendant has been reattached to the case but otherwise in good condition. The bow is a replacement but otherwise the case is early, is a perfect fit for the movement and I believe is original to the movement.

OUTER CASE : Diameter 54.5mm. Again no hallmarks but a perfect fit for the inner and I’m sure is original. The hinge and catch are fine and the silver is in good condition with just a little wear to the shoulder below the stem, though not worn through.

Daniel Delander was a apprenticed to Thomas Tompion in 1692. He died in 1733.
