Thomas Norris
Weston Jones, Staffs, 1841
Silver pair cases
Verge movement

Sold

MOVEMENT : The gilding is still very bright and the movement almost mint. The blued screw heads look untouched and just some tiny scratches round the pillar pins. The movement is signed “Thos. Norris, WESTON JONES” and numbered (7098).

DIAL : The white enamel half hunter, double chapter dial is about 43.5 mm in diameter. It is in mint condition.

INNER CASE : Full hallmarks for London, 1841, maker JB. The hinge is in perfect condition and the case closes nicely. Half hunter crystal in good condition. The bow and pendant are fine without the usual repaired join to the case. The silver is in excellent condition with no dents, bad scratches or excessive wear. The only wear is a slight thinning of the bow where it has been held by a chain.

OUTER CASE : Matching marks to the inner. Again the hinge is good, the case snaps shut nicely and the release button is fine. The heavy gauge silver is in very good condition with no noticeable scratches and no dents, repairs or damage.

This is a good verge movement pocket watch, in an unusual half hunter pair case but its rarity is in its condition which is superb. The outer case includes 2 interesting old watch papers from Newport, Shropshire which is near Weston Jones.

Loomes lists Thomas Norris at Weston Jones between 1846 to 1870.
