This is a fine English gilt and shell pair cased pocket watch, in good working condition, with a verge escapement fusee movement, made in London by Burgess around 1780.

MOVEMENT : Nicely gilded movement in good condition, with very few scratches and no wear to the gilding. Beautifully engraved and pierced balance cock. It is running well. The movement is signed and numbered (148).

DIAL : The white enamel dial is about 36.5 mm in diameter. It is in very good overall condition with some surface scratches but no chips, hairlines or repairs.

Matching steel fleur de lyes hands.

INNER CASE : Gilded brass case. The hinge is in good condition and the case closes nicely. High dome bull’s eye crystal in good condition. The bow and pendant are fine. The case is in good condition with wear to the gilding on the outside but the gilding is fine on the inside. No dents, damage or repairs.

OUTER CASE : Very fine gilt brass and shell case in nice condition. The hinge has one sleeve detached but the catch and button are fine and the case snaps shut nicely. The shell has a few cracks but no pieces missing. Most unusually there are no pins missing or signs of any repairs.
