This is an excellent quality, large English silver pair cased pocket watch, in fine working condition, with a verge escapement fusee movement and overlapping seconds dial, made around 1794 by Elias Joseph in Liverpool.

MOVEMENT : Signed and numbered (1149) gilded movement in good working condition with stop lever on the outside of the case to start and stop the movement (sometimes referred to as a “doctor’s” watch). Beautifully engraved and pierced balance cock.

DIAL : The white enamel dial is about 41.5 mm in diameter. It is in very good condition with just a couple of light scratches and a tiny flake at the edge at 9 o’clock.
Nice matching gold coloured hour and minute hands, also with gold seconds hand.

INNER CASE : Full hallmarks for London 1794, maker RC. The hinge is in good condition. High dome bull’s eye crystal in good condition with no damage or wear. The pendant and bow are fine without the usual repaired join to the case. The silver is in good condition with no serious dents, bad scratches or significant wear.

OUTER CASE : Matching marks to the inner. The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes nicely though the top of the release button has worn away. Again with no repairs or damage other than some light scratches.

Loomes lists Elias Joseph in Liverpool between 1790 and 1800.
